 Showering Macaws
I wanted to take the time to talk about macaws and showering. Our Greenwing is SO enthusiastic when he wants to shower. It's a daily invitation here for our birds to shower. Any time one of us humans is in there, we bring them into the room so if they choose, they can participate. Typically, our GW volunteers at least once a week and gets SOAKED!
I think having your birds in the room while showering is a great way to make shy birds consider showers. I've heard some talk about doing this for years before their bird actually volunteers, but even if they don't, it's time spent observing and spending time with humans and the running water is usually soothing to them. Do be careful about where you have your bird. Make sure you remove all hazardous objects or make sure they can't get into anything!
There's just nothing as joyous as watching Sammy shower. He uses his favorite perch (one of US!) and flaps and gets right under the running water. Afterwards, he loves to go into the birdroom and dunk his head in his waterbowl a few times. We're not sure why, but it looks like he's in heaven!
Once the euphoria has subsided, we'll bring in a blowdryer to get him started on drying off. Length of time we use it depends on how warm or cold it is. He'll dry himself naturally the rest of the way, spending at least a good hour making sure he's got all his feathers just the way he wants them!
Of course the rest of the day we spend telling him how pretty he is (he loves that word!) because he took a shower. He'll stretch out his wings and then ruffle all his feathers to let us know how proud he is! That's our boy!!

 macaw showers!!
Mine all love showers too, I have three and our GW is most enthusiastic. She will run to the bathroom when she hears the shower and will stay in as long as the water is running. She likes to be misted first then held under direct spray where she leans against me relaxes her wings and just melts. Must feel like a jacuzzi!!! Asti, our Harlequin gets really excited and yells "HI!!!!!" over and over as he gets soaked. Midori the BG isn't quite as entusiastic but she never stays dry! Oh,I shower with all three of them, they sit on the curtain rod and I bring them under the water individually. I can't describe how fun and energizing this is. After we're all clean, I gently blow dry them for a few moments , not to dry them, just enough to take the chill away!
Sounds like you guys have fun too.
BTW, all of ours love the word "Pretty" too!

Baby Bop LOVES his showers (does NOT like water bottle mistings). He will stay in the shower for 15-20 minutes. If we try to take him out sooner, he'll bite at us. Little stinker.
Bailey enjoys a little of both (shower and water bottle misting)
Diego hates it all. I think he views it as a punishment. The people who had him previously would spray him with a combination of: Water, Glisterine, and Listerine to keep him from plucking. On sensitive skin, and open wounds (from pulling feathers), I can only imagine that it stung and burned him. About every 10 days he'll get an "itch" to bathe himself in his water dish. I bought a 30 oz water dish for him to make it a little bigger. It's quite funny to see a Macaw all fluffed up trying to get wet in a 30 oz. water dish.
Diego is my "velcro bird"...is with me every chance he gets. He "helps" me every morning to get water for the flock and food preparation. God, I love him so much. Anyway, I use a serving tray to transport all 4 water dishes. Three days ago, as I was washing and filling them up, he starts to get all fluffed up, standing on the counter. When I put the filled dishes on the tray, he took it upon himself to dip into each of them and start throwing water; walking over one to get to the next. He had never done this before while he was "helping" me with water; it just made my day. I'm a proud mom.

How brilliant, I so wish that my CAG Bubba would enjoy getting wet with a shower, Mark takes him upstairs with him to shower and sometimes gets him quite near before he flies away, I guess maybe eventually he might actually 'get in' . I love the Macaws, it must be wonderful to see them enjoying themselves like that, they really are amazing parrots.
Jeepers, can't believe that about Diego, people are ignorant, cruel and hateful, thank goodness he is with you now

Thank you for posting this Hellobaby. We bring Pshar into the bathroom with us while showering and he sits quitely watching. I have never tried to entice him as he has always reacted badly with water. I think his previous owners either never introduced him to water or used it to punish because he gets so frightened and angry if he gets the slightest drop on him. The only way I can bath him is to mist him until he is so wet that he looks like a punk rocker after he shakes his head. We may try to work with him on this. I hope that eventually Pshar can experience joy in doing so.

My GW loves water! If hes gone more than a day without a shower, or water playtime, He starts saying "shower, shower, SHOWER!!!" over and over again. He also likes it when I turn on the water faucet in the kitchen and let him at it. He will hop around and get on the faucet. My favorite is when he wags his tail to get his tail feathers clean. He's SOOOO adorable!!

JaJaBinks (B&G) was so filty when I got her I had to scrub, yes scrub, her with bird shampoo twice to get all the dirt off her. She hated showers for the fisrt 6 months, then she decided they were FUN. Now she laughs, stands on ehr head, hides behind the shower curtain, runs thru the shower spray, flapps her wings soaking me in the process & just plain out has a ball. If I try to take her out before her full 20 minutes of soakling is up she gets upset.
Of course she has set a "shower process" & I can't deviate from it. Having a old clawfoot tub she heads to the far end away from the drain. She then leans against the end & lift her right wing so I can rinse under there/spread her wing & rinse it top & bottom. Then she turns around & we do the other side. Next is butt/tail feathers. Then we move to under her beak. Yep she tips her head back so I can rinse under there & get the dander out of the dip. OK now it's time to give her back a good rinse/massage & then onto her neck where I lift those thick feathers & get down to the skin. Last is her head & face. Once she's gotten a good rinsing it's PLAY TIME, LOL. This is where I can just drop the shower head & let her have at it. She just goes plain crazy & if I intervein she jumps across the tub & tries to grab my hand/fingers. I can tell ya wet skin injures allot quicker than dry skin! After her 20 minute of play I shut the water off & she's ready to step up. The "evil towel moster" is the part she hates. We manage tho & off she goes down the hall surrounded by my herd of poodles. They get excited when they get baths, so they also get excited when the birds get baths. JaJaBinks heads down the steps until she gets to the 4th one from the bottom, where she waits for me to pick her up & take her back to her cage. She tried flying once after a soaking shower & crash landed like a rock. She is usually beyond soaked. Once back on her cage then acts silly, jabbers, screams & carries on for 30 minutes to an hour. Then she settles down to preen & dry. She doens't like the hairdryer so it's out.
Now if I could just get my U2 & CAG to love showers as much. Jasmine, U2, has gotten better & loves any kind of air blowing on her. Jengo, CAG, forget it! It's a battle the whole way.

 B&G showers
I always know when the brat(B&G) wants a shower. I'll go in to find he has emptied his water dish all over the room... Managing to get his whole head wet in the process...
After a good splash around in the tub - with lots of telling the world how much fun it is, he'll go on the shower curtain rod and wait to be blow dried.
Sometimes I think blow drying is his favorite part of the process ...
He's never been aggressive toward me - though he will try to chase the other birds away any time he gets a chance.
Any time I lay down on my back where he can see me, he climbs down comes over climbs up to the middl of my chest and rolls over on his back too - his signal that it's time for some head scratching and tummy rubs.

This sounds like Tango though he really doesn't like getting a shower. He stands on his shower perch and shakes and vocally objects until it is over But once he is wet, you can tell he is happy! He loves the blow dryer and "bathing" in his water bowl. Makes a HUGE mess but he loves it and that is what counts
