 Bird-Safe Heating
We're just getting our first cold snap and are expecting perhaps upper-40's tonight. I know we'll be fine, but I would really like to find a portable source of heat that is bird-safe. If we get temps lower than mid-40's this Winter I really would like to be able to put something in their room to boost the heat.
I'm also interested in finding something for the patio. Any ideas there? I'm planning on acclimating them so we can still spend our 'fly time' out there for about an hour a day, but it would be nice to have some source of heat out there that is bird-safe as well. I know there will be some great suggestions! Thanks in advance everyone!

For your bird room, try an oil radiant heater (they're shaped kind of like old fashioned radiators) there's no fumes and no open flame/element. But, you'll probably want to put something over it to keep them from landing on it - they still get hot.

That's what we use in our family room ... it's the coldest room in our house. Last night we hit the upper 20s. It works well ... the birds have never even been interested in checking it out (but then we don't have fly time either).

I actually got a Black and Decker utility heater - I don't exactly know how it works but it doesn't have oil in it but it has a timer so you can just put it on for an hour or so just to get the chill out or up to four hours or you can leave it on and it really does a good job - one of them did the whole down stairs of my house - I was amazed. You can set it for small, medium or large rooms. And it shuts off automatically should it tip over. It does use a good amount of electricity, though...

This is one that I am looking into:
http://www.econo-heat.com/productspec.html
We have a heater like this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... 0804902498
I love it. It warms the room, its quiet, and its low to the ground.
Don't know how practical this is but check it out: http://ergopages.com/cozylegproducts.html?gc1-2
Okay, this one is a real maybe on my list: http://www.avitec.com/PearlcoN.html
Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone!! Lei, I really like the panel heaters. I do have a concern that they be something the birds can be kept away from, so those may be just what we need. Thanks again!
